ACL Injury

ACL Injury can create serious health problems for both female and male athletes.  When an ACL is torn there is usually cartilage injury as well.  There is thought, within the medical community, that one long term outcome associated with this injury may be arthritis.  So an ACL injury can have severe and long term consequences.  And the result of this injury for many is ACL Reconstruction.

Fortunately modern research has shown that strength and conditioning training, balance or proprioceptive training, and agility training can significantly reduce the incidence of these injuries.

We have developed an integrated approach to preventing ACL injury in partnership with international soccer superstar Brandi Chastain and Brandi’s World.  This integrated approach to injury prevention has been proven to help women prevent ACL injuries but male athletes should experience decreased risk of injury as well.  In the ACL Fitness Program we combine strength training, running and agility drills, and proprioceptive/balance training into a program that creates optimal conditioning for competitive sports.  Into this program we integrate yoga, vision therapy, visualization, and sports psychology.  This program will be available in August, 2009.

Start with an introductory kettlebell package.  This will build strength in the hamstring and gluteal muscles.  When these muscles are weak, individuals may be at greater risk for ACL injury.
