Rotator Cuff Weakness
Many people experience shoulder pain, lack of mobility in the shoulder, or poor shoulder function. Sometimes these kinds of problems are caused from impingement, which is basically a pinching of the tissue between the bones in the shoulder. This impingement is partially due to anatomical disturbances and partially due to poor biomechanics. Another common problem that limits function of the shoulder is rotator cuff weakness. The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that serve as a stabilizers of the shoulder. They are small and not responsible for large scale movements. Rather they can be thought of as coordinators, or conductors of the movement. There are many techniques to develop rotator cuff strength but Indian Club training may be one of the best.
In some cases, the rotator cuff ligaments can be torn. When a rotator cuff ligament is torn, one therapeutic option is to have corrective surgery. Other injuries that sometimes require surgery are Labral or cartilage tears and shoulder impingment.
